Overview of Position:
This is a full time professional, unclassified position which reports to the Dean’s Office. Screening of applications begins March 5, 2012 and continues until the position is filled.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Providing assistance and counseling services to students enrolled in major options for all nine K-State colleges as well as students planning to transfer to other institutions
Developing and implementing intrusive academic advising programs and an early warning system along with organizing placement testing, including CLEP and COMPASS tests, and tracking at-risk students on learning contracts
Providing support services for disabled students
Assisting students in exploring careers and/or guiding students in the selection of graduate school opportunities
Coordinating tutoring services, helping students develop study skills and supporting the first-year experience initiatives
Seeking and supervising external funding for the Academic and Career Advising Center
Developing an advising handbook to assist faculty advisors and students and assisting in the design, development, and delivery of effective advisor training, including technical, career, and social aspects
Coordinating the assignment of academic advisors to all students enrolled at K-State Salina
Enhancing recruitment, advising, and retention of international students
Candidates are required to have:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
Distinguished record of professional experience in areas related to student services programs, such as academic or career advising, retention programs, or student counseling
Experience working with multicultural and diverse faculty and student groups
Excellent written and communication skills.
Preferred qualifications:
Master’s degree in a relevant field;
Familiar with best practices in student advising at collegiate level,
Experience designing and implementing workshops
Experience teaching college freshmen transition courses
SALARY: $35,000 TO $40,000 - Depending on Qualifications
