About the program
In a unique approach, future controllers are first trained as pilots through an instrument rating at the tower-controlled airport. This immerses students in the terminology and operational environment of aviation, giving them a better understanding of what is expected of ATC. Flight training is followed with basic and advanced ATC courses and industrial experience as well as management courses which prepares students for careers as experienced ATC managers. K-State hires adjunct faculty employed in the field to share real-life experiences in the classroom.
