Airport managers plan, direct, and coordinate activities concerned with the day-to-day operation of airports including following governmental agency policies and regulations as well as construction and maintenance of airport facilities. Airport managers tend to have a well-rounded skill set and understand public relations, economics, business management, civil engineering, personnel management, labor relations, and politics in addition to policies and regulations. They often oversee people in the areas of human resources, facilities, public relations, planning and engineering, operations, security, and aircraft rescue/fire fighting.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM
Courses for the airport management program are taught in K-State Salina’s classrooms and through distance learning by K-State faculty. Adjunct faculty who are employed at the local airport share real-life experiences with students. Field trips give students hands-on experience in the many facets of airport management and operations. Students are given the opportunity to take the American Association of Airport Executives exam to become a Certified Manager.
